Job Title: Buyer/Purchase Ledger

Location: Bath Working Hours: 37 hours per week 

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the successful day-to-day running of manufacturing operations by consistently following processes and collaborating with colleagues to achieve business objectives. This position plays a key part in maintaining a safe, positive, and high-performing team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Execution: You will act on daily MRP/DDMRP messages and Quick Action Alerts, raising and managing purchase orders to support production schedules, customer demand, and agreed inventory policies.
  • Supplier Management: You will maintain an accurate supplier purchase order book, ensuring all orders are acknowledged and delivery dates are confirmed. Additionally, you will monitor supplier delivery performance and proactively address risks to material availability.
  • Technical Support: The role involves supporting the implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and coordinating materials for new product introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Process Excellence: You must follow standard work and procedures in line with the Business Management System (BMS) and take personal accountability for delivering high-quality work.
  • Continuous Improvement: You will participate in problem-solving and root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent supply failures and look for ways to improve internal processes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will work closely with Planning, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Logistics to ensure an uninterrupted material flow.
  • Data Integrity: Maintaining high standards of ERP/DDMRP master data, such as lead times, MOQs, and planning parameters, is a core requirement.

Requirements

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a buying or purchasing role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Knowledge: You should have experience managing suppliers for precision-machined components, castings, or electronic components.
  • Skills: Demonstrated negotiation capability and the ability to interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical specifications, and basic engineering drawings are essential.
  • Systems: Proficiency in ERP systems (DDMRP experience is desirable) and Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Qualifications: You should hold a CIPS qualification or a degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Lean Principles: An understanding of Lean supply chain techniques such as Kanban and Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) is expected.

Working Hours

Monday- Thursday 8am-4pm Friday 8am-3.30pm
