If you’ve been unemployed for some time, the prospect of going back into the workplace can be daunting.
Which is why at 24-7 Staffing, we spend time preparing people for reintroduction to work. The way we go about this is really paying off; we’re seeing real success in getting longer term unemployed into the labour force, and earning again.
We work closely with Seetec Pluss, which liaises with Jobcentre Plus to help find employment opportunities, particularly for those who have been out of work for more than six months, but less than two years.
Natalie Bull, one of our Apprentice Recruitment Consultants based in Amesbury, explained what we do.
“It’s all about helping people get back into work but going about this in the right way. We will meet with Seetec Pluss candidates, and help with them in terms of getting their documents together, like their CV, Right to Work information, and registering them on our system.
“But we like to meet them face-to-face, and invite them into the office. That way, they have a desk and a computer they can use, and we are on hand if they need any assistance or have any questions.”
People can feel anxious about going back to work. After a period of time off, the thought can be daunting, so we pave the way to make this as stress-free as possible.
We offer a tour of the work place before our candidates start, to check this is something they would like to do. We meet them there, show them around, and introduce them to the team and managers. All this means that on their first day, they know exactly where they are going, who to talk to, where things are and what to do. And if, at the tour, they decide it’s not for them, that is completely fine.
One of our success stories is Stephen. He had been unemployed for most of 2022, although he’s been regularly visiting the Job Centre and attending job fairs. In the past he’s had different roles, including volunteering at Barnardo’s. It had been a long time since he’d done agency work, but he found the team at 24-7 Staffing made it easy for him.
“Stephen absolutely smashed it. I cannot fault him at all. We got him a role as a warehouse operative for a 12-week Christmas contract, and his attendance and work ethic were excellent,” Natalie said.
“There was more work available for him at the warehouse once this contract had finished, but we talked to him about what he wanted, and in fact placed him with a new client, working in food production. This worked better for him in terms of timing. He’s very happy there, and the feedback we have had from this new client has been very positive.”
Stephen said: “I have to get up early for the shifts, but that’s not too bad and I enjoy being back in work.”
